Alameda Save Our Schools (Alameda SOS) is the campaign organization for Measure A, the new parcel tax measure for Alameda public schools. This measure will be on the ballot in a March 8 special election.

The parcel tax would fund community priorities for the schools, including small K-3 class sizes; recruitment and retention of teachers; neighborhood schools; Advanced Placement courses; music, media, PE, and drama; programs to improve student performance; high school athletics; technology; secondary school counselors; and adult education.

Because the parcel tax only funds a portion of the true financial need, the Alameda Unified School District will continue reducing costs as well – and accountability requirements built into the measure will ensure appropriate and transparent use of funds. The new parcel tax will replace current taxes levied under Measures A and H.

What’s at stake is nothing less than the quality of public education in Alameda and the quality of life in every neighborhood across our community. We’re seeking enthusiastic, energetic supporters to join the parcel tax campaign effort as a volunteer or contributor. Come join us!

League of Women Voters Endorses Measure A

The League of Women Voters of Alameda has announced its endorsement of Measure A, adding to the extensive list of community organizations and local leaders supporting the measure. The League said “a quality public education system supports Alameda’s economy and attracts businesses and families to our community” and that “the revenues from Measure A are critical and further budget reductions would lead to an overall decline from which our district might not be able to recover.”

Growing support

The Greater Alameda Business Association, representing small and medium-sized businesses in Alameda, has announced its endorsement of Measure A! Read our press release here. The association said a strong public school system “benefits both homeowners and the entire business community” and that the association’s member businesses “have indicated by a strong polling majority that they believe this measure as written should be supported by the voters.” The association’s endorsement is the third for Measure A from Alameda business groups, joining the Alameda Chamber of Commerce and the West Alameda Business Association. They are part of a growing list of organizations and individuals – elected leaders, business, labor, seniors, parents, and community organizations – on record as supporting Measure A to provide local funding for quality schools.
